Fire Updates from Nor Cal

From our friend Karen Carrasco in the Arcata, Ca area:

We have huge wildfires up here as well—the biggest (among three huge ones)–the Ukonom complex, is mostly on National Park land and the 3 adjoining Indian reservations. The latest news, published in our newspapers up here and discussed on our local radio stations, are that the Native American elders of the region are working WITH THE FIREFIGHTERS (!!) to manage the fires according to THE ANCIENT BURN PATTERNS THAT THEY ALWAYS USED TO DO.

This assures that a minimum of damage is done to the trees, and only the underbrush is cleared, SO THAT THE DEVASTATING SCALE OF THE FIRES WILL NO LONGER BE THIS BAD in the future!! Those in the know say that this has been a much needed correction of an artificially maintained overgrowth from past “white man” misconceptions of forest preservation.

To me it demonstrates just how far up the vibrational scale we have all come, that federal, state and tribal officials can work in harmony to care for the earth. There’s a quote from a local non-Indian resident up in the fire area saying, “It’s such a beautiful fire”, as she gazes at the slope across the roadway, explaining that it is burning in such a mellow, underbrush-only way, that will restore the correct vegetation for all the wildlife up there…..so….when you hear about all the huge numbers of acres burning, know that many of them are beautifully rebalancing themselves, as the natives always did in california.

Love ya! Karen
