Essential Feng Shui Tips: Feng Shui Doors
There’s a lot of talk about doors in Feng Shui, and with good reason! Doors symbolize our ability to make clear, intelligent decisions in life.
Each day we have multiple opportunities to stand at the threshold of an experience and make a decision–yes or no. How would you rate your ability to clearly and easily make decisions? Do you frequently say yes, whether or not the experience is really good for you? Do you often say no, slamming the door on ripe possibilities? Or, do you remain indecisive until the door of opportunity has closed? Ideally, your ability to say yes or no has full range of motion, based on your own inner wisdom and clarity.
Wisdom and clarity come from knowing your purpose in life. Arnold Patent, author of You Can Have It All, suggests that you ask: “What is my unique role in the Universe?” The recent best-seller Essentialism, by Greg McKeown, encourages us to “discern what is absolutely essential” so that we can make “the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.”
So, the simpler your purpose – or essence – the more powerful it will be. Once we declare it, our ability to choose which doors to walk through become crystal clear.
What’s your essence?
I get it! I’m making sure that all my doors can swing wide open to welcome in all the abundance and opportunity that comes with being a Helpful Person. Thanks!
I’m grateful for the gift of slowing down my life. It’s easy to list my priorities for the year:
1. Coming home to myself with lots of nurturing.
2. Deepening my Bikram yoga practice.
3. Preparing for the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program’s Level 8 piano assessment.
I give the gift of music my piano students, and I inspire them to develop their music promise.
Essentially, this is who I am!
In love and light,

I have the tape book set on western school of feng shui. I like it a lot. There is so much stuff in it. It is hard to get started. Is there a book on step by step to feng shui once house, life, and etc. I have tried over 3 years to get my life in more feng shui. I am working around a few health problems, family members, not working, and more. So I slowed down on things. This time I am going to work on me. If you can help, and that does not cost a lot of money I am willing to work on it. Thank you, Jonell Palmer
Hello Jonell – Thanks for checking in… The book on tape (or CD) that you have is actually a great place to start. It sounds like you might be a bit overwhelmed right now, however, which can make the first step the most difficult…
We suggest that you take it one chapter at a time:
– Do you live with what you love? If you don’t love it, find a way to let it go!
– Are you surrounded by safety and comfort? If you don’t feel safe, change the lighting, fix your locks, soften points and angles, add a railing, whatever you need to do, do one thing at a time.
– Get Help. Enlist the help of a friend or family member to work along side you, clearing clutter, deep cleaning, taking a car load to the Goodwill.
One tiny movement can start an entire avalanche. Good luck.

Hi Jonell,
Thanks for reaching out! A great self-help reference for you is The Western Guide to Feng Shui, Room by Room, a book I wrote specifically for people to be able to Feng Shui their own spaces. There’s LOTS of information on the Western School of Feng Shui’s website, and many online courses you can dip into. I wish you every success!
Hi there, I have been reading and doing many feng shui things around my house it has worked for the most part but I just don’tt quite understand how to get it working and have a good flow in my life with my family, kids and husband especially. I have a very odd shaped house (it’s a letter “T” and to make things worse its a two story house. So any help and suggestions. Oh and the “T” is upside down so the missing bogus is money and love corners. Please help!
