Essential Feng Shui Tips- Doors
In Feng Shui, your front door is considered the primary Mouth of Ch’i. All other doors are smaller “mouths” through which the breath of Ch’i, like fresh air, meanders through the rooms of your house.
- When building a home or addition, plan on doing one of two things. Either locate your doors so that they are not directly across from other doors or large windows, or plan to leave enough room to be able to place a piece of furniture, a planter, an island, or a screen between them. This is to encourage Ch’i to meander through a room like a refreshing breeze. When doors are located directly across from other doors or large windows, the Ch’i tends to move too quickly through the room, unless it is slowed down and redirected by something substantial between them.
- When you are living in a home that has doors lined up directly across from other doors or large windows, do your best to place something substantial in between them. When this is not possible, hang a crystal from the ceiling midway between door and window to help circulate the Ch’i streaming through the room.
- Check all the doors in your home to make sure they open fully and easily. Relocate anything stored behind a door that blocks its full range of motion.
- Repair all doors that are sticky, loose, or in need of new hardware or paint.
- Hang attractive items such as mirrors, paintings, or photographs directly across from doors in confined spaces such as hallways and foyers.
- The area around any door should be well lit. Make sure lights or light switches are conveniently located near all your doors, including those in halls, basements, and attics.
