Deck the Halls…

…and the walls, shelves, tables, and doors! This time of year, I get carried away by all the sparkling ornaments and glimmering remembrances. My collection of decorations, after sleeping in a box for a year, emerge with stories to tell. Tales I’ve almost forgotten and yearn to remember. As I gently pull them free from their quiet nests and arrange them around the house, their soft murmurs or loud bursts of memories fill me with waves of delight; poignancy; awe.

What is it about the fragile angel musicians, funny-faced elves, handmade ornaments, and strings of starlights that can elicit so much feeling in me?  They are precious visitors ‘who’ I only see once a year, and every time I open the box and welcome them in again, they become more alive and infused with meaning. As I find the perfect spot for each one to shine, I am essentially creating holiday altars that hold in place the deep, softly-lit spirit of the season, the beauty and the memories they carry illuminating my heart and home.

May You Remember Well and Enjoy Every Moment,
