We’re Here To Do This!

Greetings Co-Creators!
I have recently returned from a 2-week romp through Brussels and Dublin with seven friends. The trip was born when my publisher and dear friend Louise Hay decided we must go and see the Flower Carpet, an extraordinary work of wonder that is created bi-annually in Brussels’ Grand Plaza. And then…. because we were so close….. she figured we’d head over to Dublin to drink Guinness ‘from the source.’
Well of course!
Louise & Heather in their new Irish caps.
We arrived in Brussels just in time to watch 150 people weave nine hundred thousand begonias and chrysanthemums into a giant carpet of flowers, all in one day! Like synchronized swimmers in a sea of petals, they worked seamlessly together throughout the day completed the Carpet before the sun went down.
The sheer spectacle of such an endeavor blew me wide open. ‘We’re here to do this!’ I thought… a thought that deepened and widened as I watched the sheer magnitude of their creative efforts manifesting right before my eyes.
The shocking beauty of the Flower Carpet remained intact for a week while I and my companions wandered through the city’s gardens, museums, and cathedrals. We inhaled the wildly imaginative
paintings of Rene Magritte and the National Library’s temple-like exhibits of art and manuscripts from every religion in the world. Many of the streets are graced with gorgeous architecture and graceful sculptures portraying the majesty of the human form. The vibrancy of these creations delighted me over and over again….‘We’re here to do this!’
Then, on to Dublin, a city teeming with expressions of human creativity and the palpable charisma of the Irish people. Their now-famous Riverdance choreography and Guinness beer both capture their absolute resolve to celebrate life, no matter what! Musicians are everywhere, many of them playing heart-pulling Irish tunes on their bagpipes, fiddles, and flutes. What other kind of music can make me smile and shed a tear at the same time?!
Ireland actively encourages the indomitable spirit of its musicians, writers, poets, and artists. Hence, many a bright Irish light has illuminated our world, including William B. Yeats, James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, and George Bernard Shaw who said, “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
After soaking in all those creative juices, I find myself changed. Such immersion brought me to this: when the magic-carpet world of our imaginations tumble forth, we are not just expressing ourselves, we arecreating ourselves! ‘‘We’re here to do this!’
Up the umbrella pole and across the table I wove my own flower arrangement to celebrate our returning to San Diego.
