Feng Shui Definitions: Lighting

Lighting can greatly enhance the Ch’i in our homes. Options include incandescent and halogen electric lights, candles, oil lamps, fireplaces, and natural sunlight.

  • When building, consider your electric lighting needs, inside and out. Soffits, wall sconces, canned lights, and track lighting are easiest to install during the building process. Locate electrical outlets in the floors of active rooms so that you won’t have wires running across your rooms.
  • Improve Ch’i flow through your home by illuminating dark corners, camouflaging sharp angles, and warming gloomy rooms with lighting. See photo above!
  • Use  lighting to symbolically complete and enhance “missing” areas indoors and out using the Bagua Map.

  • Lighting can be artistic, so choose fixtures that you love! Collect lamps that add personality to your decor. Let the light that fills your home be a reflection of your taste and creative expression.
  • Use as many night lights as necessary to make your home safe. Install them in hallways, stairways, bathrooms, and closets.
