Q & A – Personality Assessment Questionnaire

Q.  I did the questionnaire regarding determining the elements dominant in my life. I came up with the score combination of 64, 57, 60, 65 and 68. With such a tight cluster of numbers, would it be safe to conclude there is no dominant element, rather they all share almost equal weight? — Beth

A. Hello Beth, this is a great question. During our Essential Feng Shui Practitioner Training, our teacher Becky Iott offers this Assessment to all our students with quite a substantial explanation. I’ll give you the brief version here.

All results are completely subjective and can be primarily looked at as placeholders in your personal experience and expression of self. Higher numbers are usually indicators of a more Yang expressin, while lower numbers are a more Yin expression. One is not better or worse than another, they are just different expressions of the same elements.

If your results are within 15 points of each other, whether Yin or Yang, then we can say that you’re pretty well balanced; If your numbers are further apart, then perhaps you’re not as well-balanced as you’d like to be. But that’s the point: Balanced as You Want to Be. Are you exhibiting behaviors, according to the elemental expressions, that you are happy with? Are you where you want to be? Are there adjustments that you’d like to make? Do you feel happy and balanced with where you are today?

When I first took the Assessment, I had very high Wood and Fire numbers. I loved them being that high! I have always been very active and loved being the life of the party (Wood and Fire, respectively). At the same time, I also had very low Metal and Earth numbers. Only then did I realize that there were situations in my daily life that required me to be more Metal (organized) and Earth (grounded). I was able to pull from that list of questions what would work for me at that time without negating what I loved about being primarily Wood and Fire.

Since then, I’ve taken the Assessment 3 more times, and the numbers have never been the same twice. I’m now more Watery than I have ever been before and loving that, too!

Keep in mind that these numbers are to be used for self-reflection and self-meditation, and that there is no right nor wrong way to review the results!
